January 17, 2010 [This prayer, as offered during the Divine Liturgy on Sunday January 17, comprises the intentions, hopes , and suggestions of our Adult Class which met before the service.] O Lord, we offer You our anguish, uncertainty, and confusion over the events that have occurred in Haiti, a place already so shaken by the difficulties of life. Allow that the suffering there may in some way also shake the depths and destroy the weak foundations of the world’s and our own indifference to those around us. Grant rest and show mercy to those who have perished, and provide strength to all who grieve the loss of loved ones, of property, and of their livelihoods. Bless the united efforts of many in their efforts to comfort, restore, and rebuild and may some good ultimately take place in the lives of those in Haiti and in all of us. For You are our God, and in You and Your only-begotten Son, and life-giving Spirit, have we placed our hope always now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen. |
