Orthodox Christian Education
| Our churches offers a
variety of opportunities for both children and adults to gain a better
understanding of the orthodox faith and to participate in activities which
put into practice our Christian beliefs. Our youth and teen
church school programs take place in the classrooms and community space
located in our lower level. The adult class takes place
in the church prior to services. |

The children
are instructed how to make Easter Flowers for our shut-ins |
In addition to providing instruction for the
children in their faith and spiritual growth, our program for the children
regularly provides them with opportunities to help others and reach out to
those in need.During our Lenten curriculum
and throughout the year, each child is asked to become more mindful of
their own actions and to consider those in need and well as being
continually thankful for the gifts which God gives them on a daily basis.
We have four teachers who work with youth up to
their teen years. The older grades are more actively involved
in doing works outside the church, such as volunteering to help with
charities, such as Covenant House and other activities. |

| We also
offer learning opportunities for our parish adults. These sessions, which
take place prior to the liturgy, look deeply into various aspects of orthodox Christianity
to help us more clearly understand our faith and how it
influences, and is influenced by, our daily lives and the world we live in.
Our adult class topic for Lent 2007 has included the
writings of St. Maximus the Confessor and has been integrated with the
homilies given by Fr. John during the pre-sanctified services.
An additional theme for education this year has been to continually
develop an understanding of how integrated our orthodox practice is with
the biblical word. |

Choir Director, Josef Gulka, prepares the children for their role in the
Palm Sunday services to sing as the children did during Jesus' entry into
Jerusalem. |
We are
continually aware of the important role children play both in the present
and future of our parish life and actively involve them in all aspects of
our worship, including Fr. John's special children's sermons as well as
other activities involving them as active members in the life of our
church. One of the most important ways in
which children participate in church life is through singing either with
the full choir or as small groups for special occasions. Since the
orthodox liturgy is a sung service, we feel it is important to begin to
foster an appreciation for the character of orthodox music as well as the
desire to sing either from the choir or the congregation. |
